We Honor Veterans

We are on a mission to serve the veterans who have served our country.

Treasure Coast Hospice has achieved the Level 1 designation in the We Honor Veterans program, a joint effort by the National Hospice and Palliative Care organization and the Veteran's Administration to recognize veterans' special end-of-life needs.

While 550 agencies are designated as recruits in the program, Treasure Coast Hospice is only the 79th to be ranked in Level 1, and fewer than a dozen have achieved Levels 2, 3 or 4. We are already well on the way to accomplishing the tasks for the Level 2 designation.

To earn the Level 1 designation, Treasure Coast Hospice has:

  • Included presentations on end-of-life care for veterans in its volunteer orientations.
  • Begun an additional training program for our Veteran to Veteran volunteer program.
  • Added a military history checklist at the time of admission to identify veterans who are eligible for additional VA benefits, specific war-related social and emotional issues and a pinning ceremony to recognize military service.
  • Provided specially trained admissions nurses for patients referred from the VA hospital to ensure continuity of care between medical teams.

The We Honor Veterans program teaches respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment to comfort patients who are veterans. Click here to visit the program's website.
